Form DPT-45Scoring keyRev 2026-10-26

All 45 items and how they're scored

Nothing about this test is hidden. Here is every statement, the trait it counts toward, and the exact arithmetic.

How is the test scored?

  1. Each answer is a number: Very untrue = 1, Somewhat untrue = 2, Neither true nor untrue = 3, Somewhat true = 4, Very true = 5.
  2. Statements worded in the opposite direction (marked “reversed”) are scored 6 minus the answer, so “Very true” on “Am an honest person” counts as 1 toward manipulativeness.
  3. A trait's score is the average of its statements, from 1.00 to 5.00. Every statement must be answered.
  4. The label shown with a score is the answer option nearest that average (for example, 2.40 reads as “Somewhat untrue”).

There are no percentiles and no overall “difficulty” total. We didn't find a published reference group for these items that we could check, and adding the seven traits together would hide the differences that make the profile useful.

Statements are shown in a fixed, interleaved order (one from each trait in turn) so that items from the same scale aren't bunched together.

Where do the items come from?

The statements are from seven scales of the CAT-PD static form (version 1.1), developed in a project funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (Simms et al., 2011) and published in the International Personality Item Pool. The item pool is in the public domain: permission is already granted to use its items for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. Retrieved October 26, 2026.

The seven scales match the seven antagonism factors reported by (Sleep et al., 2021). That study analyzed items from several questionnaires; we don't know which of its items, if any, came from this exact form, so the match is by trait, not by item.

Our changes: Seven of the CAT-PD-SF scales selected; items interleaved; third-person wording for rating another person written by this site (not validated).
